Becky was born and raised in San Jose, growing up in what the department refers to as the Foothill Division. She received an Administration of Justice degree from Evergreen Valley College. She got her start in law enforcement in 1988 as a San Jose Airport Police Officer, when the Airport had its own independent police department. In 1990 the Airport Police Department merged with the San Jose Police Department and she joined our rank-and-file in 1992.
In her time with the department she has worked a variety of assignments, including the Violent Crimes Enforcement Team and Street Crimes Units. She's been a Gang Investigations Detective and was a Background Investigator in the Personnel Unit. She's been a Field Training Officer and a Driving Instructor for the Department's Training Division. Most recently she has returned to patrol for her second tour as a Field Training Officer. Becky has served on the POA's Board of Directors since 2005. In addition to member representation she serves on the Union’s Insurance and Benefits Committee. In 2006 she was honored to accept an appointment as a Director for the State of California, Peace Officer Memorial Foundation, in Sacramento.
Becky's involvement with the Union started when she wanted to take her experience on the department as well as her knowledge of current membership issues and try to effect meaningful and lasting changes that would make a real difference to the rank and file. She strongly believes that those who are elected to serve the Union must never forget that the position is an honor given by the membership, and that all Union work should always be performed in a selfless way, with an eye on the changing needs of the membership, and not at the expense of the membership.
Becky and her life partner have three children, one boy and twin girls, who take up any spare time, when she has it!
