DeLaRocha Family

Benjamin DeLaRocha #4516
Police Officer, San Jose Police Department

We received the following message from the DeLaRocha family.

Benjamin DeLaRocha, born in Santa Clara, California, moved with his family to Oregon in his early years. In 2006, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served with the Security Forces until 2012. His military service fostered a strong sense of duty and discipline, which he carried into his subsequent career in law enforcement.

Inspired by his father's legacy, Benjamin pursued a career in policing after leaving the Air Force. He joined the San Jose Police Department and graduated from the academy in August 2017, where he was honored to be nominated as the Vice President of Academy Class SJ29. His initial assignment was to patrol, where he made significant contributions over four years, including multiple felony arrests. He also earned the SJPD Gun Seizure Award for his efforts in firearm seizures.

In March 2021, Benjamin transitioned to the Violent Crimes Enforcement Team (VCET), where he made a substantial impact by recovering and seizing over 100 illegally owned firearms from gang members. After two years with VCET, he tested for and was assigned to the Mobile Emergency Response Group & Equipment (MERGE Unit) in May 2023. In MERGE, Benjamin has excelled as a certified firearms instructor and chemical agent instructor. Benjamin remains an integral part of the MERGE team, dedicated to his role and to the safety of the San Jose community.

Outside of his professional achievements, Benjamin's personal life is equally fulfilling. He met his wife, Amy, while on patrol, and they celebrated their marriage on September 15, 2022. Currently, Benjamin enjoys firearms, video games, boating, and motorcycles, which reflects his diverse interests and vibrant personality.

In July 2024, Benjamin was diagnosed with stage four mesothelioma cancer. As he faces this challenging health battle, his family and friends are actively raising funds to support his recovery and medical needs. Your support and contributions during this time are deeply appreciated. 100% of your donation will go towards helping Benjamin’s fight.
